Photo & Recording Policy

Our goal is to create an open conference that welcomes all people and allows them to be themselves, this includes respecting the need for privacy of every participant.

Policy

To keep the conference enjoyable for everyone by default it is assumed that attendees don’t want to be recorded in any way (this includes photographs, videos and audio recordings). This assumption includes recordings that are only made for private purposes. So even if you don’t intent to publish a recording, assume others don’t want to be recorded.

To still make photography possible we will hand out photo consent stickers for participants to indicate that they are fine with appearing on photographs.

If you want to take and/or publish a photo with people visible ensure one of the following:

Otherwise either cut them out of the image or modify the image so that they are not identifiable. Keep in mind, that blurring out the face might not always be enough to ensure a person is not identifiable. Again, when in doubt ask the affected parties.

For video and audio recordings always ask for explicit consent from every person affected.

If a recording of you is taken or published without your consent, either by another participant or a member of the organizing team, please approach the person taking or publishing the recording, or a member of the organizing team. If you are asked to delete or unpublish a picture, please do so immediately and without discussion, ideally show the requester proof of deletion/unpublishing.

Violations against this photo policy are handled as violations against the Code of Conduct, which includes respecting each others’ boundaries.

Smart glasses and other hidden recording devices

Wearing smart glasses or using other hidden recording devices is not allowed during the conference with one exception: Using smart glasses as the topic in a session, for example to demonstrate their use, talk about their security or similar. Still make sure everyone is aware of this at the beginning of your session and keep in mind the general photo policy still applies even within such a session.

We have decided to explicitly address smart glasses, as it’s not always clear for other participants if they are recorded and therefore can have a chilling effect on their enjoyment of the conference.
